Responsibilities Nurses Defining Medicine - Operating Room (Bridge) The nurses in the Operating Department of the George Washington University Hospital (GW Hospital) are Defining Medicine through their capacity to think, research, discover, evaluate, teach, learn, refine, and innovate. We are seeking newly license or bridge RNs for our Operating Room Unit who want to work in an environment which fosters positive patient outcomes through a collaborative practice model and evidence-based nursing practice. The George Washington University Hospital is a Level I Trauma Teaching Hospital. GW Hospital was recently ranked as one of the "Best Hospitals in DC" by US News and World Report. A helipad opened in 2019, which expedites care to the critically ill or injured. NURSE RESIDENCY PROGRAM- AORN PERIOP 101 The GWU Hospital AORN Periop 101 residency program is based on the Association of Perioperative Registered Nurses (AORN) Perioperative 101. It is innovatively designed to provide intense post-graduate training for newly license nurses. The paid 24-week program combines blended learning of didactic, skills practice, eLearning and clinical rotations (circulating and scrubbing) in an acute care setting. The preceptors are selected by the Operating Room Educator in conjunction with the new interns. The interns and preceptor spend time together reviewing behavior, interpersonal and basic medical surgical knowledge. Upon completion, the newly license nurses are equipped with the knowledge and skill set typically found in a more experienced staff nurse. The program also includes monthly classes, debriefing sessions, an evidence based project, and Nurse Residency Coordinator oversight. Operating Room Department Level 1 Trauma Center with 17 ORs, Hybrid Suite and Ambulatory Surgical Center (5 Suites) providing a comprehensive range of adult surgical specialties. There are many opportunities for growth with our Clinical Nurse Advancement Program (CNAP), shared governance committees, and unit based practice councils where your voice can make a difference.
