Position Summary
The Radiation Therapist is responsible providing daily treatment for cancer patients. Under general supervision and medical direction, the Radiation Therapist utilizes standard radiation therapy practice to provide therapy, management, diagnostic evaluation, education, and care of patients with deficiencies and abnormalities which affect the pulmonary system and associated aspects of cardiopulmonary and other systems functions.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities of the Job
- Performs and documents the simulation and/or localization and treatment planning required for the preparation of the delivery of radiation therapy treatments utilizing unit-based protocols, policies and procedures.
- Performs and document the treatment delivery Multi-Leaf Collimator (MLC), positioning, treatment) required for the delivery of radiation therapy to meet goals for care; working within the scope of practice for a radiation therapy technologist; following established medical center policies, procedures and protocols.
- Performs required documentation to comply with departmental guidelines for Systems at LBMC, Varis system, chart checks, and quality assurance management and improvement.
- Effectively communicates with other health team members and areas of care with regard to the patients’ plan of care for treatment, measured outcomes, and make recommendations for alternative care options. Coordinates care with other members of the health care team to achieve desired goals and outcomes.
- Participates in efforts to improve the performance of the radiation oncology service and organization. Provides manager and other clinical leaders with information on issues that pertain to patient safety, opportunities to improve outcomes in care, and improvements in systems and processes.
- Serves as a preceptor and role model for new personnel and students in training.
