Job Description
Under direct supervision, and according to established policies and procedures, performs a variety of duties in the urology out-patient office.
� Performs urodynamic, cystometrography and uroflometry testing.
� Performs ultrasonography to determine various urological conditions or status including but not limited to post void residual, prostate volume, organic impotence and infertility related diagnoses.
� Changes, using sterile methods, subrapubic urinary catheters and insertion of various foley catheters.
� Assists physician at bedside for multiple outpatient procedures including cystoscopy, vasectomy, excision of lesions, prostate and bladder biopsy and Vantas implants for cancer patients.
� Handles surgical instruments and maintains strict aseptic technique when setting up and assisting physicians for procedures.
� Monitors vital signs and documents any changes to patient status during procedures.
� May provide instruction to patients as per physician order/protocol or reinforce physician instruction prior to or following procedures.
� Prepares for scheduled procedures ensuring that necessary equipment, instruments and supplies are ready for use.
� Maintains a clean and safe environment, cleans rooms and sterilizes equipment. Restocks exam rooms with standard supplies.
� Maintains power equipment and specialty instrumentation.
� Maintains and/or enhances professional expertise through appropriate educational and organizational activities.
� Active participation as a team member including mentoring new employees. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:1. High school diploma or equivalent. Training in urology performing urodynamic testing, cystometrography and ultrasounds in a urology setting, or the equivalent combination of training and/or experience.
2. Experience as a Urology Technician strongly preferred.
3. Medical Assistant certification strongly preferred.
4. Basic life support (BCLS) certification.
