Job Summary:

An immediate opening is available for a Research Assistant 1 in a lab in the Department of Pathology, Microbiology and Immunology at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. The focus of the lab is studying extracellular vesicles and extracellular RNA in the regulation of inflammation and cancer. The ideal candidate will have experience with molecular and/or cellular biology. A willingness to work with mice is required. All candidates must be quick learners, self-motivated, organized, reliable and good communicators. Prior experience with immunology, extracellular vesicles, RNA biology and/or cancer biology will be useful, but is not required.

It is expected that this lab member will spend ~90% of her/his time performing research projects and ~10% of her/his time on general lab duties (i.e. regulatory documentation, ordering, managing lab supplies).

Key Responsibilities:

• Molecular Biology: PCR, western blot, CRISPR-Cas9
• Cellular Assays: in vitro cell cultures, maintaining cellular bioreactors, extracellular vesicle isolation, transfection, flow cytometry
• Analysis of experimental data, discussion of results with PI, participation in lab meeting/journal club

Requirements:

• BA/BS in biological or chemical science
• Demonstrated ability to work with others in a positive and productive manner
• Ability to keep a detailed and current lab notebook
