A postdoctoral opening is immediately available in the laboratory of Dr. Erin Scherer in the Division of Infectious Diseases, Department of Medicine at Emory University School of Medicine. The Scherer Lab aims to understand immune mechanisms that underlie durable and protective B cell/antibody responses in order to more reliably design infectious disease vaccines that provide life-long immunity. We are seeking a highly motivated, organized, and productive scientist to fill a new postdoctoral position in a growing lab. This position will drive ongoing COVID-19 and sexually transmitted infections (STI) research efforts. We work with both human subjects and animal models to explore immunologic mechanisms involved in B cell memory formation. We readily adopt new technologies and experimental approaches as needed to better answer our core research questions. Some projects may be carried out within a large collaborative network for clinical vaccine and therapeutics evaluation. Fellows are expected to be independent, capable of leading their own research projects and be in charge of all aspects of their project from concept, data generation, and analysis to grant submissions and preparation of scientific presentations and publications under the guidance of the PI. This position will offer many opportunities to mentor/train junior lab members. Basic requirements include a Ph.D. in Immunology, Microbiology, or a related area. Successful applicants will have a peer-reviewed publication record, strong oral and written communication skills, and the ability to work effectively with others.
