The Sr Respiratory Therapist demonstrates sound clinical practice in performing Pulmonary Function Tests. Able to verbalize understanding of record keeping procedure related to PFT's. The Sr Respiratory Therapist maintains constant flow of patients. Sr Respiratory Therapist works with lead RT to maintain all PFT charts in an orderly manner. Has knowledge of process and policy in maintaining Arterial Blood Gas analyzer according to NYS inspection standards. The Sr Respiratory Therapist should be able to communicate effectively with pulmonary specialist, manager and office staff. Works cooperatively with RT is on staff schedule monthly. Demonstrates understanding of emergency procedures.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Calibrates PFT machine daily according to manufacturer's specifications.
- Documents reason for visit in EMR (EPIC).
- Obtains height & weight accurately and completely as required.
- Obtains Arterial Blood gases as ordered by providers.
- Performs six-minute exercise oximetry.
- Provides instruction for overnight oximetry to patients.
- Maintains supplies for PFT procedures and equipment.
- Communicates repair issues directly to manufacturer.
- Communicates problems to Nurses/Physicians.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS / REQUIREMENTS:
1-2 years experience as Respiratory Therapist. Experience with pulmonary function testing preferred. A New York State Registered Respiratory Therapist License issued by New York State Department of Education required. Current BLS certification required.
EDUCATION:
Associates degree in respiratory care required or Bachelors of Science preferred.
