About the area
Kaiser South Bay: With the Pacific Ocean as one of our boundaries, the South Bay service area offers a wide variety of activities and cultural opportunities. Famous beaches are close by and exploring the Palos Verdes Peninsula is a local pastime. With the riches of our own area, along with Los Angeles to the north and Long Beach to the south, the South Bay team can always find great dining, museums, entertainment, and sporting events.
Kaiser Downey: Centrally located just southeast of downtown Los Angeles, the Downey service area is a hub both for quality housing and a range of activities. Staff members live in the immediate Downey area but also in Los Angeles, South Bay, and Orange County, affording them all the fine dining, entertainment, and cultural opportunities that Southern California has to offer.
Working here
Kaiser South Bay:
With a culture grounded in transformation, the South Bay service area is one of the most dynamic in the region. We have added three new office buildings in the recent past. There is a great emphasis on professional development; physicians at all levels of seniority are encouraged to step up and lead. We have local and regional leader within our department that champion various domains including asthma, obesity, physician wellness, and equity, inclusion, and diversity. Trying a different approach to better outcomes is not only encouraged but supported. Some recent pilots include incorporated ACE's screening, motivational interviewing for obesity, and virtual mental health applications for teens to name a few. That we have a relatively young leadership team speaks to our efforts to open the higher ranks to new associates and partners. Opportunities abound to become involved in committees or in the community, in academics or research, and in clinical operations and purview. Our collegial, inclusive environment keeps the team connected and engaged, promoting a healthy work-life balance, and supporting activities that span different age ranges and interests. Our physicians are diverse culturally and in the makeup of our families. We understand the challenges that come with work-life balance and strive to help our physicians achieve that equilibrium. Many of our physicians will commute further distances to be a part of our South Bay team as we have a supportive environment with a family feel.
Kaiser Downey:
Infused with a spirit of teamwork and collaboration, SCPMG Downey has a strong culture of safety--emphasizing both patient safety as well as caregivers' ability to raise concerns and have a voice. Our leadership is dedicated to accessibility and a flat hierarchy, building trust between physicians and ancillary staff. There is a significant focus on innovation--Downey was the region's first medical center to perform same-day total joint surgery--and on efficiency, improving workflows across the medical center and ancillary offices. At the same time, wellness--both physical and mental--is emphasized, with regular opportunities to dine out, socialize, and exercise together. With a high level of tertiary care, one of the region's largest NICU's, and an OB and anesthesia staff comprised of full physicians, Downey delivers exemplary service to its diverse, high-risk-profile patient population.
