Department Chair of Family Medicine District Medical Group Valleywise Health Medical Center – Phoenix, AZ
District Medical Group (DMG)—a not-for-profit faculty practice group in Phoenix, Arizona—employs and exclusively contracts board-certified physicians and mid-level providers to provide clinical, administrative, and teaching services to Valleywise Health (VWH), the Phoenix area’s only public teaching health system. DMG medical specialists’ staff and practice in a 450-bed hospital that includes a level 1 Adult and level 2 Pediatric Trauma Center, Arizona’s only nationally verified burn center-Arizona Burn Center, Arizona Children’s Center, Comprehensive Healthcare Center, and an ambulatory care system of 10 Family Health Centers across the Valley.
In a region growing as fast as Phoenix, building a pipeline of medical talent is imperative to caring for the communities we serve. To continue this trajectory, District Medical Group, in conjunction with Valleywise Health, seeks a physician leader specialized in family practice to lead the Department of Family Medicine at Valleywise Health Medical Center as the Department Chair. This position will be employed by District Medical Group and will be staffed at Valleywise Health Medical Center in Phoenix, AZ. The Chair reports to Chief Executive Officer (CEO) at District Medical Group and to the CEO of Valleywise Health and functions as the Chair of Family Medicine for the health system. The Department Chair, Family Medicine serves on the Physician Leadership Team of DMG and interacts with the other clinical chairs and the administrative leadership of FQHC operations at Valleywise Health.
OPPORTUNITY HIGHLIGHTS:

Valleywise Health (VWH) serves a safety-net population, offers a full scope clinical practice, teaching opportunities, and community involvement, and includes a strong internal referral network. VWH hosts 12 GME programs, including a Family Medicine Residency program with Dignity Health.
Medical Education: Twenty-four (8/year) Family and Community Medicine residents are trained at VWH under Creighton University-Arizona Health Education Alliance. The Department Chair may have the opportunity to serve as the Regional Academic Department Chair.
Patient Caseload: DMG served approximately 85,000 member lives and 220,000 primary care visits during FY22.

The Department Chair, Family Medicine will be responsible for departmental administration, clinical activities, and continued development of the Family Medicine residency program. The candidate should have a strong track record of professional collaboration, successful administrative/leadership experience, physician education, and a vision for growth of the department.
PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS Experience and Education:
M.D. or D.O. medical degree from an accredited school is required.
At least five (5) years documented leadership, supervising, and/or administrative experience in a director or similar physician leadership role.
Board Certification in Family Medicine by the American Board of Family Medicine (ABFM).
Possessing specialty expertise in Family Practice and demonstrate clinical competence as a practicing physician is required.
Licensed or eligible to practice medicine in the state of Arizona is required upon hire.
