Job Description
The ASC Phone RN is responsible for completing all preadmission assessments for patients on our schedule.
Job Relationships
Reports to the Manager, ASC Business Services
Principal Responsibilities
- Complete pre-admission, telephonic health assessment including current health status, health history, medications and allergies.
- Interview and assess patients to ensure patient meets ASC admission guidelines.
- Identify potential risks and needs for upcoming procedures.
- Consult with anesthesia and the patient's medical team on potential high-risk patients to determine appropriateness for surgery at ASC. Communicate and document outcomes as necessary.
- Accurately reports and enters documentation into SIS and EHR. Documents all calls according to established guidelines of practice.
- Accuracy, clinical knowledge, professionalism, timeliness
- Provide pre-admission teaching to patient and caregiver if required.
- Answer questions regarding upcoming surgeries if capable or communicate to appropriate individual.
- Assist with notification of patient arrival times
- Assist with post-operative calls to identify potential complications and issues that might require additional action, elevating these concerns to the appropriate medical personnel. Answer any questions the patient may have regarding their post-operative course. Completes reporting of reportable events to ASC leadership.
- Prioritize tasks appropriately and manage time and resources effectively
- Monitors the schedule for additions and cancellations and works closely with ASC schedulers for scheduling changes.
- Ability to multi-task, function efficiently and work effectively with minimal supervision
- Maintain confidentiality of all interactions
- Attend all department meetings and mandatory Springfield Clinic in-services
- Comply with the Springfield Clinic incident reporting policy and procedures.
- Adhere to all OSHA and Springfield Clinic training & accomplishments as required per policy.
- Provide excellent customer service and adhere to Springfield Clinic's Code of Conduct and Ethics Standards.
- Perform other job duties as assigned.
Education/Experience
- Experience with EHR preferred
- A minimum of one (1) year of medical office and/or phone experience preferred
- Educated as registered nurse by attaining an ADN, diploma or B.S.N.
Licenses/Certificates
- Currently licensed as a Registered Nurse in the State of Illinois.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Must be able to adjust to various personalities and situations
- Must have the ability to control emotions and maintain composure under stress, using tact and good judgement
- Must maintain professional behavior
- Demonstrate intermediate computer skills and comfort with Windows operating systems.
- Uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines.
- Pleasant, clear telephone voice
- Possess excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
- Practices independent nursing within the scope and consistent with the Illinois Nurse Practice Act.
