Located in the nation’s seventh largest city and the second largest city in Texas, San Antonio offers a pediatric population expected to grow an additional 30 percent over the next 20 years, offering an exceptional professional opportunity.
Fellowship-trained, experienced sleep medicine physicians are also desired.
Responsibilities include caring for patients at CHRISTUS Children’s and its community and satellite clinics. Successful candidates will be physicians who are clinically focused on exceptional patient care and have an interest in academic medicine, teaching residents and medical students.
Here you will join a team of four Pediatric Pulmonologists (two full-time and two part-time) and two nurse practitioners. The Pulmonary Clinic at CHRISTUS Children’s provides care for a wide range of respiratory disorders including asthma, cystic fibrosis, severe allergies, lung transplant, pulmonary hypertension, sleep disorders, muscular dystrophy and other neuromuscular disorders, bronchopulmonary dysplasia, and other chronic lung conditions.
These positions are employed by Baylor College of Medicine and offer a highly competitive salary and excellent benefits package including medical/dental/vision, 401(a) Retirement Plan, 403(b) Tax-Deferred Investment Plan, Employee Assistance Program (EAP), Long Term Disability (LTD), financial counseling and basic life insurance.
About CHRISTUS Children's
Serving as a focal point for pediatric services throughout the community, CHRISTUS Children's is a world-class children’s hospital – both inside and out. In February 2013, CHRISTUS Children’s finalized an agreement with Baylor College of Medicine, ranked as the #8 medical school for pediatrics (tie) by U.S. News & World Report in 2022-23. Baylor College of Medicine recruits, employs and oversees physicians.
At CHRISTUS Children's, you will find an established legacy of care dating back to 1869 when the Sisters of Charity of the Incarnate Word arrived in San Antonio and health care for women and children was transformed. Brought to the city by Claude Marie Dubois, a Frenchman who was the Bishop of all Texas, three Sisters arrived in San Antonio to find a town plagued by a cholera epidemic and the remnants of the Civil War. By 1891, the Sisters congregation had grown to nearly 200 and had established the Santa Rosa Infirmary.
The Sisters continued to care for the children of San Antonio throughout the 21st century, building the first and only hospital for children, Santa Rosa Children’s Hospital, in 1959. The hospital became part of the CHRISTUS family in 1999.
The CHRISTUS Children’s is the culmination of the vision of the Sisters of Charity of the Incarnate Word and the CHRISTUS Health System leadership. The organization now employs over 1,000 staff members, including a 400-nurse team who earned Magnet designation in 2018.
About San Antonio
The Alamo City is one of Texas’ most historic and charming metropolitan areas, blending Old West history, Spanish heritage, and all the energy of a big city yet with the warm, welcoming feel of a small town. Residents are drawn to San Antonio by its housing prices, which are comparatively lower than other large U.S. cities, along with its annual average of more than 300 days of sunny weather and mild winters, rich diversity, excellent public and private schools, abundance of green space, professional sports, top-notch restaurants, two major amusement parks, shopping, nightlife and entertainment, a strong regional economy and varied professional opportunities for spouses, plus easy access to a major airport.
Stroll or take a river barge along The River Walk, the city’s 15-mile urban waterway. On the weekends, you are just a short drive from the bustling heart of the city to the beauty and wide open spaces of the Texas Hill Country with its rolling hills and big Texas skies along with the area’s abundant restaurant, shops and galleries. You’re also conveniently located to explore Austin (less than 90 minutes), Houston (less than three hours), Dallas (about four hours) or the beaches of Galveston (less than four hours). And, as a resident of Texas, you’ll pay no state income tax.
