The Manager is responsible and accountable for provision of comprehensive respiratory care throughout HealthAlliance Hospitals, including:
- Maintaining the department's strategic plan and fiscal/resource management;
- Facilitating quality patient care by continuing to update clinical knowledge base;
- Providing leadership, acting as a resource;
- Promoting clinical competence;
- Participating in attainment and development of qualified staff;
- Evaluate, assess, and treat patients, on a routine basis and as needed;
- Coordinating ongoing quality improvement.
Responsibilities:
The following is a summary of the essential functions of this job. The employee may perform other duties, both major and minor, that are not mentioned below; and specific functions may change from time to time.
- Plans, organizes and directs the Respiratory Therapy department activities for the treatment of patients:
- Monitors and/or assigns staff based on workload
- Ensures provision of treatment, evaluation/intervention and completion of documentation.
Performs respiratory therapist duties when needed including:
- Evaluates and assesses the patient based on subjective and objective information to develop plan of care.
- Provide treatment according to established goals on treatment plan and reassess patient's status when goals are met or there is a change in the patient's condition.
Develops plan, in conjunction with Director, to support the department and the hospital including:
- Targets for quality improvement;
- Ensure appropriate use of resources
Supervises all personnel assigned to the Respiratory Therapy department:
- Tend to all human resource issues and maintain updated personnel records.
- Oversee the growth and development of the Respiratory staff to continually improve the departments human resources.
- Counsel's staff, provides for additional training as needed, and initiates all personnel action such as disciplinary steps.
Provides education and information on Respiratory Therapy services including:
- Provides accurate, adequate, and timely information to the professional staff.
- Instructs respiratory therapists and students.
- Serves as a clinical resource to staff and students.
- Acts as department expert regarding evaluation, data interpretation, and in specialty areas and treatment decisions.
- Coordinates and develops professional in-services given by staff and/or other members of the Health Care Team.
- Provides timely staff meetings and correspondence to keep the staff up to date on Departmental and Hospital issues/concerns.
Develops and maintains a departmental Quality Improvement program including:
- Maintaining appropriate clinical, operational, and staffing indicators.
- Overseeing a system for collecting data.
- Providing written and oral reports to the appropriate hospital committee or representative in a timely manner.
Provide leadership throughout the department that is consistent with the goals and objectives of the organization:
- Plans and organizes respiratory operations in collaboration with the Cardiopulmonary Director.
- Develops departmental goals and objectives to meet the growing needs of the Hospital, the medical staff, the community, and the services it provides.
- Develop policies and procedures in accordance with regulatory guidelines to provide guidance to Respiratory operations
Maintains fiscal accountability for department operations including:
- Oversees material management for the Respiratory Care Department
- Monitors FTE's and overtime for optimal use of resources.
- Oversees staff utilization to including use of Per Diem staff and On-call staff.
Requirements/Qualifications:
Education:
Completion of an accredited Associate of Science Respiratory Therapy program. Bachelors degree preferred.
Experience:
Minimum 5 years experience in a qualified Respiratory Therapy department. Two years supervisory experience preferred.
Training/License:
- Thorough knowledge of Respiratory Therapy theory, practice, appropriate technology and practice standards for area of responsibility.
- N.Y.S Respiratory Therapy License, credentialed by the NBRC as a Registered Respiratory Therapist.
