The recent joining of Lovelace Biomedical Research Institute (LBRI) with the Touro University System that includes New York Medical College (NYMC) has expanded our academic prowess and the potential to conduct innovative clinical trials to impact respiratory diseases. While NYMC’s primary mission is training medical and dental students, it also offers graduate programs in experimental pathology, microbiology, immunology, cell biology, biochemistry and molecular biology and conducts research across these disciplines. Founded in 1947 as a not-for-profit corporation, LBRI employs ~35 PhD level scientists and ~250 technicians and staff. The Lovelace mission is to serve humanity through research on the prevention, treatment, and cure of respiratory disease. LBRI studies respiratory health issues of concern to scientists and health care experts in universities, government, industry, and patient advocacy groups and offers state-of-the-art facilities to support the needs of the work proposed.
With an extended community of Faculty, researchers, graduate students and technicians, LBRI is uniquely positioned to provide broad research resources to Faculty members committed to advancing our mission. LBRI operates more than 450,000 sq. ft of laboratory space over two campuses with state-of-the art facilities to support basic and applied research. LBRI, with over 120 animal models for respiratory research and breeding facilities for genetically engineered mouse models, provides a rich environment for collaboration and translation of basic research findings to in vivo models. Our well-established pre-clinical investigational drug safety program allows opportunities to extend work into human clinical trials for respiratory and non-respiratory diseases.
LBRI's affiliation agreement with the University of New Mexico allows for adjunct faculty appointments, training of graduate students, and fosters collaboration across the Health Sciences Research Programs and the University of New Mexico's NCI Designated Comprehensive Cancer Center.
We are currently seeking Tenure-Eligible Faculty members at the Associate or Professor level to join LBRI and be a part of our collaborative research team. Tenure will be through New York Medical College and offer not only guaranteed generous salary support, but opportunities for research collaborations and trainees. Applicants should have a demonstrated research expertise and record of accomplishment in Lung Cancer, Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease, Immunology, Toxicology, or Infectious Disease. Applicants must demonstrate significant research experience and a record of accomplishment in basic, population, and/or translational research. LBRI provides state-of-the-art research space/equipment and full administrative support. Competitive start-up package and long-term institutional support to include significant dedicated annual funding will be provided to expand collaborative research across LBRI and NYMC and for the applicant to continue to grow their extramurally funded research program. Depending on the candidate's interest, LBRI’s affiliation agreement with the University of New Mexico also allows for adjunct faculty appointments for those who are eligible with the possibility for graduate student training and additional clinical collaborations across the Health Sciences and Main Campus Research Programs.
The faculty position requires a Ph.D. with demonstrated experience in management and running an independent research laboratory at a similar research or academic organization. The candidate should have an outstanding record of publications and research accomplishments relevant to their focused area(s) of research. Candidates are required to have a demonstrated history of success obtaining multiple funding awards at the RO1 (or equivalent) level, and success in funding renewals. The candidate’s primary laboratory will be located on one of the LBRI campuses depending on research area of interest.
Interested applicants should send a cover letter, curriculum vitae, brief summary of past accomplishments, outline of individual future research plans, and contact information for 3-4 academic referees. All application materials should be sent as a single PDF file.
