The Division of Pulmonary Medicine in the Department of Pediatrics at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine in Pittsburgh is seeking a physician-scientist to join our faculty and serve as the Director of thePediatric Asthma Center at UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh. The candidate will be a physician with education and training in basic or clinical research (MD, MD/MPH, or MD/PhD), a focus on childhood asthma, and a strong record of scientific productivity. Proven ability to obtain extramural funding is a plus. Academic rank and salary will be commensurate with experience.
The successful candidate will oversee and interact with NIH-funded faculty and will be provided support to enhance our asthma research program and compete for extramural funding. She/he will collaborate with the Clinical Director of the Asthma Center and key stakeholders, lead the data and quality improvement initiatives of the Asthma Center, care for patients at the Difficult to Treat Asthma Clinics, and oversee community engagement activities. Other clinical and academic responsibilities include teaching fellows, residents, and students and serving as an attending physician on the Pulmonary Inpatient/Consult Service five weeks per year.
The Division of Pulmonary Medicine currently has 17 full-time faculty members, including 12 pediatric pulmonology and sleep medicine physicians. Our pulmonologists have broad clinical and research interests, including interstitial lung disease, lung transplantation, neuromuscular diseases, sleep disorders, cystic fibrosis, and asthma. The hospital has a well-equipped procedure center for bronchoscopies, a pulmonary function (including infant pulmonary function testing) and exercise laboratory, a nationally recognized Cystic Fibrosis Center, an active sleep clinic, and a seven-bed AASM-accredited sleep laboratory.
The Division has a strong ACGME-accredited training program in pediatric pulmonology that enrolls six fellows (two per year for a three-year training interval). The program features joint conferences and research activities supported by an NHLBI-funded T32 Training Grant in Pediatric Pulmonary Medicine. Our educational mission extends beyond our fellows-in-training to include pediatric residents and medical students.
